Description of Board Duties and Committees

  • Chapter President: responsible for overall direction of the chapter and executing against the NSN mission.  He/she presides over all meetings and represents the organization to the public. The president is the liaison between the national office and the local chapter, and will communicate consistently with the VP of her/his respective region. Committees that report to this office are Mentoring and Marketing. The president will assume the chair of these committees in the event of a vacancy until the executive committee appoints a replacement.
  • Vice President of Finance: this officer is the “financial manager”. She/he serves in the absence of the president and is accountable for the financial well-being of the organization. The VP of Finance is responsible for developing and managing an annual budget.  Committees that report to this office are Finance and the Membership. The VP of Finance will assume the chair of these committees in the event of a vacancy until the executive committee appoints a replacement.
  • Vice President of Events: this officer is the “event manager” of the chapter. She/he serves in the absence of the VP of Finance, and is accountable for the programs that are executed by the organization. Committees that report to this office are Annual Conference and program. The VP of Finance will assume the chair of these committees in the case of a vacancy until the executive committee appoints a replacement.
  • Treasurer: this office is the custodian of all financial records and the bank accounts. He/she is also responsible for collection of fees and disbursements, and will annually file any relevant reports or documents as they relate to Internal Revenue Service codes or laws for non-profit associations.
  • Corresponding Secretary: this officer is the liaison between the local chapter and organizations with which the chapter does business. The corresponding secretary will be responsible for finding and maintaining necessary business resources such as printers, mailing services, etc. and will establish an applicable billing plan with each resources to limit out of pockets expenses by members.
  • Recording Secretary: this officer is the custodian of all written record in the chapter. He/she will record the minutes at all meetings, and administer the voice mail, e-mail and chapter database and chapter website. He/she will act as an informal historian, keeping a record of all pertinent NSN info i.e. press releases, articles, copies of programs, etc.

COMMITTEES (six total)

  • Membership Committee: accountable for developing and implementing strategies for the recruitment and retention of NSN members. Co-chair recommended to split duties. The committee reports to the VP of Finance.
  • Finance Committee: accountable for raising money for the chapter and insuring that the chapter has capital with which to operate. Manages budget with 1st VP. Committee reports to the VP of Finance.
  • Program Committee: accountable for the planning and execution of all chapter programs, including Success Experiences and the State of the Organization meeting. Co-chair recommended to lessen workload. The committee reports to the VP of Events.
  • Annual Conference Committee: Accountable for the local chapters’ contribution to, participation in, and attendance at the NSN annual conference. The committee reports to the VP of Events.
  • Marketing Committee: accountable for the marketing the organization to the public. This includes press releases, event notices, and any other materials and/or methods used to promote the organization. This committee reports to the President.
  • Mentoring Committee: develops and implements NSN efforts to cultivate relationship internally (members) and externally (community outreach). Co-chair recommended to lesson workload. Committee reports to president.
